Breast CARE (Communication, Access and Recovery Exchange) is a comprehensive program designed to meet the unfulfilled breast health needs of women in nine counties in the Central and Western Oklahoma Affiliate’s service area.  Breast CARE is an expansion of the Mammogram Initiative, a program credited with providing more than 15,000 breast health education packets to women over the age of 18, scheduling nearly 370 mammograms, and diagnosing three women with cancer.  Communication includes educational and preventive measures, such as those provided by the Mammogram Initiative.  Access offers low-income women transportation to their mammogram appointments via the MammoVan.  Recovery provides women with highly-requested breast cancer survivor support services that they often cannot afford following expensive cancer treatments.  Breast CARE will ultimately result in fewer instances of prolonged illness and death due to breast cancer, and expedite recovery time for survivors.
