The OU Breast Institute will offer free breast imaging services for women that uninsured or underinsured who do not qualify for other federal or state programs. Our key activities include 1) screening and diagnostic breast imaging services, 2) an outreach and education program that will specifically target African American, Hispanic, and rural women; and 3) transportation assistance to women living more than 20 miles from our facility. Education and outreach efforts will inform women about risk factors for breast cancer, signs and symptoms of breast cancer, appropriate screening guidelines, healthy lifestyle choices, and resources available for screening, diagnosis, and treatment. All women attending our educational programs will complete a survey which allows us to assess knowledge gained by their participation, and the likelihood of undergoing breast cancer screening in the future.
