The Urban Breast Health Program provides culturally enhanced educational workshops, supportive services & transportation to mammogram screenings (screenings provided through a partnership with the OU Breast Institute). Services are also provided on site at selected public housing sites and female prison facilities. Efforts center upon education, awareness, and early detections and prevention. Clients are regularly surveyed to determine if knowledge of breast care has increased and the likelihood of a positive change in behavior based upon this new knowledge. The desired impact is an increased life expectancy in the African-American community and increased early detection of breast cancer among African-Americans.
