Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!

Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.


Brief Summary of Priorities

Through a community needs assessment, the Central & Western Oklahoma Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has identified the following needs:

  •  Projects focusing on free or low cost breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment for the uninsured and medically underserved, more emphasis given but not limited to:
o   American Indian women in Comanche, Lincoln & Oklahoma County
o   White women aged 30-39 in Oklahoma County
o   All women living in Canadian, Comanche, Grady, Harper, Logan, Oklahoma, Payne, & Pottawatomie counties.
o   African American women of all ages living in Cleveland, Comanche and Oklahoma counties
  • Projects focusing on patient navigation services designed to increase access to breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment for the uninsured and medically underserved, more emphasis given but not limited to:
o   Western Oklahoma County: 73128, 73108, & 73179
o   Southwestern Oklahoma & Northwestern Cleveland Counties: 73119, 73159, 73169, and 73139
o   Central Oklahoma County: 73118, 73105, 73106, 73109, 73111, 73121, and 73117
o   Southwestern Oklahoma: Comanche, Caddo & Jackson counties
o   South Central Oklahoma: Stephens, Garvin, Marshall & Carter counties.
  • Projects focusing on culturally appropriate targeted and quantifiable educational outreach that describes the risk factors, screening guidelines, treatment options and healthy lifestyle initiatives for Hispanic, African American, American Indian and Caucasian women, both 18-50 and over 65 years of age with more emphasis given but not limited to Blaine, Carter, Cleveland, Ellis, Garfield, Harmon, Lincoln, Logan, Payne, Pontotoc & Seminole counties.  
  • Projects addressing the need for ancillary services including but not limited to:  transportation, child care, utilities, social services and nutrition programs for low-income individuals seeking breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment with more emphasis given but not limited to rural areas specifically: Southwestern Oklahoma-Comanche, Caddo, Beckham, and Jackson counties; South Central Oklahoma-Stephens, Garvin, Marshall and Carter counties; Northwestern Oklahoma-Woodward and Texas counties.
